The following plot summary for The Farm (the Alice Pieszecki spin-off show) can be found on IMDB.com:

After being convicted of murder(ing) Jenny Schecter, Alice is incarcerated in California's Humboldt State Farm and Prison for Women. Arriving alongside Alice is Valentina Galindo, a seemly humble articulate woman but beneath her gentle exterior lies a ruthless woman. She is feared by all and thought to be the most dangerous woman in California, while only convicted for racketeering, drugs and assault. Valentina is believed to be the Hitler of LA's underground responsible for ordering countless murders. Valentina has many enemies who would offer a handsome reward for her head.

Guess having a cliffhanger to make the last L Word season somewhat interesting isn't a priority.

They should have one similar to "Cops"... Where they can get Xena Lucy Lawless to cameo, and Helena will make one hell of a hawt cop.

This point is well made. This is exactly how I feel. I may not like the way the show goes all the time but, I am extremely grateful to have had a show at all!!

you're the co-star, Alice's pet goat. you follow her everywhere, which is against the rules, but you do it anyway because Alice has an arrangement with the warden. all the prisoners pet you but sometimes they hide things inside you they're not supposed to have & then the warden has to search you. i can't tell if you enjoy that or not. but it happens every episode at least once, so i guess the producers think the audience enjoys it.

Long Beach I think you bring

Long Beach

I think you bring up a great point. I think we are all feeling a little bruised and used. And yes CA_Medicine_Woman it does seem as the lesbian community is being stepped on and treated like dirt.

There is for me a deep sadness and sense of loss. I bitched and moaned about the plot, the writing, the WTF's on tlw and I don't and won't apologize.

The good news was: TLW with all it's good and it's bad gave us as a community something to discuss. Characters to love, characters to hate, WTF's to rail over, Writer's directors to praise or moan about. It was ours. Nothing has been ours and there seems to be nothing on the horizon to even remotely replace what we've lost. That coupled with the loss of OC is pretty devastating.

I think part of the problem with being gay is that invisible line thats always there but; seldom acknowledged. We can assimilate into the hetro society so easily, we have their lifestyles and pop culture so intertwined into ours that we have no real identity of our own. Even if we're openly gay we live in their world.

TLW gave us something we've never had. Our own show, with our own hero's, villains, girl knights in shinning armor, name it tlw had it in some form or other, yeah many times distorted and ugly BUT: it was ours. It was a world where we were the prime characters and our lives were the most important. Then we had OC to discuss it all. That was ours too.

To me it feels like a death in the family. You know when someone is sick for a long time and you know they are going to leave you but; you always think there is more time. Even though you knew it was going to happen, when it does your still not prepared. I don't think mourning a loss is any easier having known it was coming.

We'll all survive but; the sad part is we'll do it in their world. Now I still have Grey and McDreamy. See what I mean....

As for the spin off, I like Alice. I'm over prison stories but; I'll give it a chance, heck you just never know..

Yeah, and many don't even

Yeah, and many don't even listen to Stern, but he has an iron clad long term contract, so he's going nowhere.

OutQ is paid for through advertising revenues, both specific to the channel and from an advertising "pool" of sorts through Sirius, as are many of the commercial channels.

As yet, I've found no explanation for the cancellation. I'm kind of hoping Diana will tell us, but I suspect she's a bit busy right now. It just bugs the crap out of me that the one show I actually liked on that channel is gone, and it seems to be a trend for lesbian content in corporate media right now.

I don't know much about how

I don't know much about how Sirius works (being in NZ) but didn't they pay hundreds of millions to certain celebrity people like Howard Stern - to get them aboard?

Yet they cancel Diana's show? So what pays the Sirius bills for LGBT radio?

CA_Medicine_Woman's picture

Well, as if womyn's media and

Well, as if womyn's media and entertainment wasn't taking enough hits lately...

It seems Diana's show on OutQ (Sirius) got cancelled, apparently replaced by reruns of that idiot Frank DeCaro's show. This effectively leaves little coverage of lesbian issues of any kind, and no coverage at all on transgender issues, on what is supposed to be an all-inclusive LGBT station. Now, it's just G, with very little L, and nothing else.

I finally get my work schedule adjusted so I can catch her show more often, and I end up with a rebroadcast of a show I can't stand for more than the time it takes to switch away from it, and then barely that!

Is it just me, or does it seem like quality lesbian content in the media is being systematically eliminated (excluding this site, I hope)?

They usually do it while

They usually do it while getting buzzed, unless I'm around, lol (damned drug tests!).

About a dozen people I know work for the Big Four (ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox) on the tech production side of things, so I get the occasional tidbit here and there. The buzz is Viacom wants to get completely away from scripted serial shows, and so they're intentionally leaking stuff about the shows they plan to kill off, just to make it easier to justify.

It's not about entertainment anymore, it's about marketing, sales, and stockholder dividends.

CA_Medicine_Woman's picture

Hey, why should the writers be the only ones getting stoned at work?

Anyone with a membership to

Anyone with a membership to IMDB can post info to the site, and not just to their own entry. It's kind of like Wikipedia that way. There is some attempt to check entries (you would not believe the hoops I had to jump through last night to get my latest film listed and they still have to approve the submission) but ultimately if you don't want incorrect info on your IMDB entry you have to check it yourself.
