Rachel on The View

Rachel Maddow added some height and gaiety to The View this morning, sitting right next to Elisabeth Hasselbeck.

I agree with you about Amy

I agree with you about Amy Holmes. I can't get past her politics. I don't go out of my way to give litmus tests, but once I know how strongly I disagree with someone on the basic issues, it's impossible for me to find them attractive.

Also, I watched Issues with Jane Velez-Mitchell last Friday. Unfortunately it was an "infamous trials" episode. I can't watch OJ et al so I stopped at about the 15 minute mark. I prefer political shows, but I'll give her a few more chances to see what else she covers.

Hey PK down there--I studied

Hey PK down there--I studied with Eve in graduate school--right when Vagina Monologues was debuting at a small downtown theatre. She's an awesome woman, and really dedicated teacher (unlike some of the bigwigs there who were clearly just picking up a paycheck). We tangled on a few things (can you imagine ME, disagreeing?) in the classroom but I'm proud to call her one of my mentors. She was also incredibly kind to me when a friend committed suicide.

I doubt anyone will believe

I doubt anyone will believe it, but I find it degrading to ask people for autographs so I refuse to do it. It's so demeaning to one's person you know...like "Hi you're better than me, will you sign this piece of paper?"

I wonder how that odd custom started.

Good on you for acting

Good on you for acting graciously yourself and not mobbing the poor woman. I've been in situations like that myself and I usually hang back. When I lived in NY I saw celebs all the time but wouldn't dream of invading their personal space. Ok, on one instance I did: newly-minted couple Cherry Jones and Sarah Paulson were wallking down the street after they'd both gotten out of their respective shows and my girlfriend and I stopped them for autographs.

I felt really uncomfortable, though, and apologized profusely, but I just couldn't help myself--I idolize Cherry and have seen virtually every stage show she's ever been in. I have friends who have worked with her, and she lived in my neighborhood, but I never got the chance to meet her. Anyway, they were both really lovely and gracious and chatted for a while (Cherry used to live up in Boston), but I would have totally understood if they hadn't been. I haven't done anything similar since, though I do admit to haunting Jennifer Connelly's Park Slope neighborhood (ok street, because I know what house she lives in) in hopes of meeting/seeing her...

Oh my gawd seriously, my friend reached out and touched her hair. I was mortified when she told me. I said "T!! Would you want some stranger coming up to touch YOUR hair?"

I can't take her anywhere.

Yep I saw that interview. She was just pure class and intelligence. I don't mean to gush either but hey you have to give credit where credit is due.

Apparently she really enchanted several people in Cleveland and Lakewood while campaigning for Obama. As you know I missed the opportunity to say hi to her when she walked past our table, but they were quite busy so I didn't want to inturrupt...or navigate around the masses of lesbians with varying degrees of drunkenness. I think Rachel probably reminds Elisabeth of all the girls she used to play softball with in college (yes she was on the varsity team).

I know we're making a lot of jokes on here, maybe cause we're lezzies, but even over on HuffPost (much straighter) people are saying the same thing. So methinks there's somethin' to it...

Yeah, JB has amazed me with how dignified and intelligent she is even when handling really sophomoric (and homophobic) questions. She manages to keep her cool, but is quietly insistent about making her point--talk about leading by example. (I know I'm gushing...)

If you haven't seen it before watch this interview with Deborah Norville, which demonstrates her graceful persistence:

I'm so happy that Joy brought up the eye-shadow! Rachel cleverly escaped answering the question of MSNBC trying to feminize her. Too bad Babs had to change the topic. Though, I did enjoy watching Elisabeth make a fool of herself trying to debate Rachel on the economy, that was priceless.

"Definitely hotter than Rachel."

Don't know if it's because I'm femme, but I much prefer Rachel. She excudes intelligence and strength, but she has a funny, warm side.

Jane does nothing for me, but I'm happy to see her publically support LGBT issues on CNN.

As for Nancy Grace...she's fine but her show is very superficial. I always feel like I'm watching the tv version of "The National Inquirer" or a political "Entertainment Tonight" when I see her show.

Gay men really lover her for some reason.

In other news, CNN has an out lesbian news anchor. Here's the story AfterEllen posted on Jane Valez-Mitchell:

Definitely hotter than Rachel (a butch's opinion) but I haven't caught her show, yet. She's also described as an "animal rights advocate, a vegan and an environmentalist." She subbed for Nancy Grace a lot (and I detest her) but I'll give her show, "Issues with Jane Velez-Mitchell" a chance. 7 PM Eastern.
