Amanda Fucking Palmer's Kickstarter Raises +$1Mil in a Month

In less than one month, Amanda Fucking Palmer has raised over $1 MILLION dollars through her Kickstarter campaign to fund her latest multimedia venture: an album with her new band, "The Grand Theft Orchestra," an art book featuring 30 artists who have created song-inspired album art, and a tour in promotion of both the album and book.

Can we talk about how amazing this is? For a female, queer, independent, radical artist to raise over $1 MILLION dollars through a website?

(Celebrating $1M via a Twitter-pic....and boobies.)

Pretty "fucking" amazing (get it? PFA = AFP. Anagramtastic!)

The funding breakdown, detailed by Billboard is as follows: "[a]t the $1 million mark, the project has received 20,822 backers that have pledged at least $1, while 34 people have shelled out $5,000 or more for a private house party, and one backer has pledged $10,000 for dinner and an art-sitting, where Palmer offered to paint a likeness of the fan on a large canvas throughout the course of an evening."

Post-Napster and in the age of "Occupy," musical artistry has found a way to become democratized—thanks to new media technology. Is this successful campaign a sign of things to come? Or an anomaly?

Independent, queer entrepreneurs take note; there is something to be learned by Palmer's example.

In the meantime, let's rejoice Palmer's success by revisiting her "Map of Tasmania":
