Eyjafjallajökull's Death Ash and The Sublime

Leave it to Icelanders to make the depressing, beautiful. Check this amazingly heart-breakingly Ruskin-esque sublime-y video of Iceland's Eyjafjallajökull volcano spewing its death cloud.

The artist who shot this, Sean Stiegemeier (and he's actually from Cali not Iceland), used his digital Canon mark 5II SLR (for any of you photo-nerds out there, the merger of pro-sumer video into SLR cameras is officially underway).

I definitely think Bjork would approve.

very.

yeah, it's a pretty major mind-fuck. I mean, I can accept that a glacier in the fertile crescent around 11,000 BC was a major contributing factor in causing our nomadic hunter/gatherer ancestors to become sedentary agrarians...but this one is a lil more convoluted. intelligent design, indeed!

That's very cool.....

Interesting fact I heard the other day - "just over 200 years ago an Icelandic volcano erupted with catastrophic consequences for weather,  agriculture and transport across the northern hemisphere – and helped trigger the French revolution".... well there you go!

Really?

That sounds like a most excellent story you should tell me sometime....

Bloody hell, I just had to google "French Revolution", to refresh the old memory bank.

Well, I think it was a necessary step towards a more democratic France/Europe, so I guess that's good!

Steph, happy you've got your

Steph, happy you've got your gov't figured out--and yeah, what a model for cooperation.

(I know Brown was unpopular, but he sure had it right about that 'bigoted' old lady.  That alone would have made me vote for him!)

I woke up early on Friday

I woke up early on Friday morning and put the telly on and it was clear then we were heading for a Hung Parliament and since then it's actually been a really interesting few days.  And yes, it's quite something how the Tories and Lib Dems have joined together and I hope it means we get a better Govt. as a result.

(I am not going to lie, I couldn't be happier to see the back of Brown!)
