Second Tuesday at the Center presents "Inspirations: a Yaddo Pride Event Celebrating Our LGBT Writers"
Long before the Lammys, queer writers found respite and support at the New York artists' community known as Yaddo, a 400-acre retreat in Saratoga Springs. Among its esteemed alums are the likes of James Baldwin, Langston Hughes, Truman Capote and Patricia Highsmith. I dunno about you homos, but I could stand to hang out in a castle with James Baldwin and Langston Hughes for a few months.
Castle invitations being somewhat difficult to come by, we'll just have to settle for tickets to Yaddo's first annual Pride Week event, a panel celebrating their LGBT writers at the NYC LGBT Center. Inspirations: A Yaddo Gay Pride Event Celebrating Our LGBT Writers will be moderated by author Allan Gurganus, who has enjoyed many working residencies at Yaddo, dating back to 1975, and who also is a Member of The Corporation of Yaddo.
Fellow former residents and writers Cris Beam and Jorge Cortinas will join Gurganus for a lively discussion about Yaddo’s past, present, and future role in the LGBT literary community, and each of the panelists will offer a reading. Just the thing to keep your sexy queer brain in shape now that school's out! Best of all, tix are by donation, which means your poor ass can pay what you want (suggested donation $10). Kick off your pride week with some highbrow literary articulation! Then go write your own great American novel.
