If you don't keep up with the loft parties, new bars, and sky rocketing rents in Bushwick then, you probably aren't keeping up with the gallery scene either. Its been happening steadily for the last five years—growing as the Arts in Bushwick org, the mother of Bushwick cultural hubs and host of the annual Bushwick Open Studios (now int its eights iteration) has been growing.
A few weeks ago I caught up with Ellen Hackl Fagan, the director of ODETTA Gallery, which opened during last years BOS festival. In a sleek steel and glass studio/gallery building off the Morgan Stop on the L, ODETTA is one of the few new stand alone spaces bringing an air of sophistication to the 'hood.
Fagan has been diligently curating smart (small) group shows that both highlight strong craft, witty concepts and importantly complimenting the space they hang and stand in. Here she talks us through her last show Tomboy featuring the artists, Ruth Hiller, Lisa Levy, Miriam Songster, Sarah Walker.
