Photographer Arne Svenson opened a gorgeous show of photographs at the Julie Saul Gallery this week to much controversy. The subjects,The Neighbors, shot while they were unawares in the building across from him in Tribeca. Creepy, yes. But also undeniably beautiful, poignant, Vermeer-esq, really.
Neighbors #5 (This titles alone are creepy… )
Neighbors #26 (Would it be less creepy if the artist wasn’t a 60-year-old man?)
Neighbors #11 (…maybe not…)
Neighbors #1
Naturally the neighbors were pissed to discover their likeness being sold for seven grand in a gallery in Chelsea. One lawyer in the building apparently said that no law has actually been broken although there is the issue of ethics.
People this is New York, don’t you know you have to draw the blinds?! People are always peering into open windows… no matter what floor you are on.
