Azealia Banks, Bi Now Gay Later

Chalk up one more for queer hip-hop.

Chalk up one more for queer hip-hop. Rising rap star Azealia Banks—a Bronx native has been garning the attention of culture mavens, party promoters, and DJs for the last few years—came out this week in the New York Times as bi (maybe even lesbian.)

Her music has also been appearing in the playlists of the fashion fabulous, recently featured on the runway of Theirry Mugler. Last week she performed live at Karl Lagerfeld’s home in gay Paris in celebration of Lagerfeld’s new “budget” line.

She’s being called the next Nicki Minaj, except without all that baggage in the closet.
