Although 9 seconds under her world record time, Caster Semenya is back on the track โ winning the 800 meter race in last week’s competition at the Savo Games in Finland.
She’s expected to contend for the 800 gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi beginning in early October.
Semenya’s world record time was set in Berlin almost a year ago. Her stellar time and “muscular appearance” caused officials to question her gender. Semenya while not in peak condition, after an 11 month hiatus (of gender tests and emotional ups and downs), and is still handily faster than the rest of the field. According to her coach Michael Seme, her speed and strength are not quit where she was a year ago, but she should be in peak shape by October.
