Ishita is the first surfer girl in India. She taught herself how to catch and ride waves and is now inspiring other little grommit girls to hop on boards. She caught the attention of story teller, Farhana Huq who created browngirlsurf.com, stories of brown girls who surf in unlikely surf countries like India and Bangladesh, as well as places in which women are not encouraged to assert themselves beyond traditional roles. Browngirlsurf hopes to inspire girls and women not familiar with the ocean to embrace Hawaii’s greatest export, surfing.
