Julia Kunin’s latest work at her first one-person show at Sandra Gering reflects her mastery over material and an evolution in style. Kunin has developed into one of the art world’s major ceramic artists. Her show, “Les Guérillères”, consist of eleven sculptural ceramic pieces doused in what has become her signature luster glaze.
While the luster glaze, has been around since the 9th century developed by Persian potters, Kunin brings a contemporary inventive style to this ancient technique. Kunin has been working with various Kilns in Eastern Europe where this technique is still traditionally practiced.
Our gallery visit below sheds light on her process and thought.
