Kevin Lustik | A Needle Pulling Thread

Kevin Lustik is a self-taught needle artist who has been sewing for over 35 years.  He started by creating quilts, then moved on to original needlepoint and cross-stitch designs.  Kevin has displayed his stitchery throughout New York City, including exhibits at the Leslie-Lohman Project Space, ChaShaMa, and Port Authority.  His artwork has been featured on CBS NewsFubbleTime, and in W42ST magazine.

Materials Used: yarn, thread, beads, buttons, and wit.

When The Mind Unravels

I wanted to create a work where skeins of yarn are unspooling.
And madness seemed the perfect metaphor.

NY Subway Map

I left the needle out at the top because New York will never be finished.

Seven Day Forecast

CIlimate change has been in my mind, so it worked its way into my art.  I wanted to show the extremes of our current weather situation in one week – from freezing cold to blistering heat.

Candy Bars

These required very careful sewing.

TV Guide

I’m nostalgic for my youth.

Broken Heart

Needlepoint usually has neat and tidy stitches. I wanted to create a work where the fabric is torn and the yarn frayed.

March 2020

I wanted to show how our lives stopped dramatically two years ago.
