LAVApeida: LAVA Gets Encyclopedic

Encyclopedia is the brand new show devised and created by Sarah East Johnson and the nine members of LAVA, Brooklyn’s all female dance troupe. Showing for just one more week at the Flea Theater in NYC, Encyclopedia is a journey through the urban jungle inspired by avian flight patterns, Tango, Cappoeira, and set to the music of Lesley Gore, with a mash up of North Inidan ragas and hip hop spun together by scenster DJ Tikka Masala. Need I say, never a dull moment?

This week the ladies of LAVA got a great write up in the Wall Street Journal. As well as their unique contribution to the arts, the piece emphasized LAVA’s community driven focus centered around the classes they run daily out of their Bergan St. Studio (necessary for this small arts organization to keep running.)

If you’re lucky enough to live near the Prospect Heights/Park Slope hood, you must come visit LAVA’s studios and join a handstand or tumbling class—tone up for summer. Have you seen the guns on these girls?

Come with me this week to “Encyclopedia” and we’ll gawk in awe.
