Wrapping up a successful run in East Hampton, QF Gallery‘s last show of the season “tête a tête”, curated by Mickalene Thomas opens this Saturday. “Tête a tête” is a group show that includes photography and video by artists from across the continent of Africa and the United States —featuring work by Derrick Adams, Zachary Fabri, LaToya Ruby Frazier, Deana Lawson, Nicole Miller, Zanele Muholi, Wangechi Mutu, Hannah Price, Paul Mpagi Sepuya, Malick Sidibe, Xaviera Simmons, Mickalene Thomas and Hank Willis Thomas.

This is the third iteration of tête a tête, which began in 2012 for Thomas (herself an established artist), as an exploration in collaboration between artists of different media/mediums. All the works are a visual expression through born through myth, performance, literature and self identitiy, as it pertains to the “black body” in today’s society.

Thomas has been interested male artists use their physical body within performance and their impact upon the viewer, and the “female gaze” upon both male and female form. Each new exhibition of “tête a tête,” asks the participating artist to egange with these themes and concepts.

Derrick Adams creates shrouded self-portraits in “Static | Distortion | Interference.”

Zachary Fabri’s videos are interior magical, alchemical, filmic landscapes.

LaToya Ruby Frazier’s short video is a collaboration between the artist and her mother.

Deana Lawson explores familial relationships, sexuality, and life cycles in intimate urban photographs.

Zanele Muholi has been documenting her community in South Africa for over a decade. She has been no stranger to the dangers and indignities of being an out, and out-spoken artist activist within her country.

Mickalene Thomas will present her Polaroid Series, providing a glimpse into the artist’s process. Also on view Nicole Miller, Wangechi Mutu, Hannah Price, Paul Mpagi Sepuya, Malick Sidibe, Xaviera Simmons, and Hank Willis Thomas.
