Last month Kathleen Hanna reemerged from a musical hitus with her latest project, The Julie Ruin. This latest iteration of the Hanna sound includes; Bikini Kill’s Kathi Wilcox on bass and Kenny Mellman of famed New York cabaret artists Kiki & Herb (Kiki being Mx Vivian Bond and Herb portrayed by Mellman) on keyboard as well as Carmine Covelli (drums), and Sara Landeau (guitar).
This summer also saw the premiere of the Hanna doc, “The Punk Singer“, by artist/filmmaker Sini Anderson. 2013 is looking like a good year for the return of punk, albeit, an older and wiser version—but no less rawkus.
There are two new releases from the band as of this writing—the full album/recording drops September 3rd.
